Pakistan, Flood News, Updates : Death toll from Pakistan’s worst flooding in decades mounted to 195 on Monday as rescuers were battling to pull through thousands trapped in floodwaters.
Around 150 villages have been submerged and nearly 450 others are affected in Punjab since torrential monsoon rains triggered flooding and landslides hit Pakistan’s most populous and wealthy province as well as Kashmir region.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) spokesman says and Sialkot and Gujranwala divisions are worst-affected, whereas Narowal, Wazirabad, Sargodha, Nankan Sahib, Jhang, Jhelum, Chiniot, Khoshab districts are also affected.
Flash flooding and house collapses from days of heavy rain have left another 195 people dead in Punjab, KPK and Azad Kashmir.
Thousands of people are still stranded, with hundreds of thousands homeless as a result of heavy rains and flooding that destroyed thousands of acres of agriculture land in Punjab, damaged thousands of houses and washed away livestock.
Relief & Rescue
Pakistan Army said helicopters and boats are being used, adding that 2300 people have so far been rescued from flood hit areas of Chiniot, Koty Momin, Phalia, Hafizabad, Khani, Qadirabad, Bajwat, Chaprar, Wazirabad and Mandi Bahauddin areas.
Troops are carrying out rescue operation in Multan, DG Khan, Liyyah, Sahiwal and other areas as relief camps have been set up in various areas.
Food packs were dropped by army helicopters for people trapped in floodwater at various places in Chiniot, Sialkot, Gujranwala and Mandibahauddin since start of the relief operation, ISPR said.
The government has also mobilized local administration for relief and rescue operations.
